World Porridge Day, on 10 October, is an international event related to porridge. And what a better way to celebrate this day then preparing this healthy dish!
Porridge is a dish made by boiling ground, crushed, or chopped starchy plants—typically grain—in water or milk. In this recipe I used spelt. It is valued for its nutritious values and its amazing nutty taste. It has more protein, fat and fiber than most varieties of wheat. It is recommended for weak people as it gives a big kick of energy. Spelt contains iron, calcium, zinc, potassium and B vitamins.
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Waiting time: 15 minutes
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
1 cup spelt flakes
2 cups almond/soy/rice milk
2 spoons chia seeds
2 teaspoons honey
cinnamon
1 pear
1 teaspoon coconut oil
walnuts
Divide spelt flakes and chia seeds into two bowls. Boil the milk with cinnamon and pour it in bowls. Stir it, cover with a plate and leave to soak for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile peel the pear, cut it in quarters and remove seeds. Heat the coconut oil in a small non-stick pan and fry on each side until golden.
When porridge is ready place pears and honey on top, pour over honey and enjoy!
